Gameplay-wise, Nurgle is closer to the Dwarves, and if you like to play defensively, you should consider playing as Nurgle. The units are even more revolting than the Skaven and are all linked to various plagues and other diseases.
Nurgle the Plague God was one of the most popular factions in Warhammer fantasy, and rightfully so.
